COVID Mitigation Update

As you are probably aware, new guidance regarding COVID mitigation has been published by the CDC and PADOH

Until further notice per our recently adopted Health and Safety plan;

  • NEW!
    • Per CDC guidelines, we require that all staff and students in school buildings/programs wear face coverings
      1. § Medical or IEP exemptions are acceptable
    • The NEIU is working with the PADOH on a FREE in-house COVID testing program
    • Vaccinations are not required of staff and students at this time; we do however encourage eligible persons to consider getting a COVID-19 vaccination
    • In the event of a confirmed school community COVID case, we may ask affected persons their vaccination status to determine isolation and quarantine requirements
    • If the community transmission rates in Lackawanna County reach substantial or high levels masks may be required of students and staff
    • Administrators and staff should share this information with parents, guardians, students, visitors, and related service agencies
  • Masks are required of all drivers, staff and students on NEIU/District provided transportation
  • We will continue to ask staff and students to monitor their health and stay home if you do not feel well
  • If staff or students don’t feel well during the day we ask that they visit the nurse to be evaluated, some staff may need to leave work and be evaluated by their health care professional
  • We will maintain isolation protocols should a student exhibit COVID symptoms; vaccination status may be considered
  • Hard surfaces will continue to be routinely sanitized
  • Transportation vehicles will continue to be sanitized by the contractor
  • PPE will remain available for staff or students who request it
  • Physical distancing will be observed to the greatest extent possible
  • We will continue to work with the PA DOH in the event a COVID case appears among our staff or student body

We will keep you posted should COVID mitigation guidelines change.

Thanks for your cooperation and enjoy the rest of the Summer!
