The Old Forge School District (OFSD) Board of Directors is seeking a visionary, strategic and decisive leader to be their next superintendent of schools. The Board is seeking someone who can continue the educational excellence of the Old Forge School District. The Board, staff and community are committed to providing the best education for all children and maintaining a strong sense of community.
The Old Forge School District serves a population of nearly 8,500 residents in a 3.5-square-mile area in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania. The district is approximately 13 miles north of Wilkes-Barre and 3.5 miles south of Scranton. The OFSD operates one, K-6 elementary school; and one, 7-12 junior-senior high school. In total, OFSD serves approximately 930 students. The 2017-18 operating budget of the district was approximately $13 million.
A rich and varied academic program of studies is offered to all students. The district strongly supports academics, the arts and athletics. The graduation rate at Old Forge High School is 92% percent. More than 75% percent of the classe of 2017 enrolled in a two- or four-year college or university, 10% attend trade or tech programs and 2% join the armed services.
Candidates should be student-centered and demonstrate leadership qualities marked by superior communication, problem-solving and financial management abilities; an ability to build teams and maintain trust; and good judgment in planning and decision-making. The candidates should also demonstrate an ability to work collaboratively with all district stakeholders in a manner exemplified by honesty and integrity.
The Old Forge School District offers a competitive salary and benefits package, and a multi-year contract. A minimum of five years of administrative experience and an advanced degree/doctorate are preferred. Building-level and central office experience preferred. Candidates should possess the Pennsylvania Superintendent Letter of Eligibility. The target employment date is July 1, 2018. Review of applications will begin in March 2018.
